Species description
Tideglass are translucent schooling fenborn whose skin contains layered reflective cells that shift from nearly clear to mirror-bright as muscles contract. The display coordinates schools and confuses pursuing predators.
Field note
Tideglass schools graze algal films from seagrass blades without damaging the plants. Because stressed animals turn opaque, aquarium traders sometimes chemically suppress the stress response to make illegally transported specimens appear healthy.
