Before the break
The Quiet Chain industrialized forced bonds through hush-collars, forged seals, chemical suppression, handlers, paper networks, and transport routes. The system treated living creatures as controllable inventory and hid harm behind manufactured records.
The disaster
Forced attunement failed at scale and produced a resonance disaster that destroyed three river towns. Surviving public records agree on the scale of the loss even where responsibility, warning signs, and individual decisions remain contested.
What followed
The disaster made the First Accord politically possible. Keeper licensing, sanctuary rights, documented custody, and provenance were built in response, while surviving Chain routes fragmented rather than disappearing.
