Marks and Gleam are both recorded units, but the Ledger does not treat them as two prices for the same thing.

What the office will hold you to
- Marks are the ordinary unit for wages, fares, care, public fees, trade, repairs, projects, and sanctioned wagers.
- Gleam is reserved for approved cosmetic, presentation, saved-organization, supporter, and similar non-power uses.
- Gleam does not purchase stronger creature statistics, shorter public timers, restricted-region access, rare-creature guarantees, or favorable gambling odds.
- Changes to either balance are entered in the appropriate ledger rather than altering a balance without a corresponding record.
Two ledgers on purpose
The separation exists so a patron may support decorative work without turning that patronage into advantage in ordinary basin institutions. A merchant may refuse Gleam entirely; they may not quietly convert it into a privileged public clock.
Sanctioned wagering
House tickets at sanctioned venues are settled in Marks. Bell’s desk is required to publish the line and settle the recorded ticket without accepting Gleam as a substitute stake.
