The public market is ordinary and real: meals, repairs, odd-lot trade, performances, and late-shift crowds. Its usefulness to covert networks comes from sharing space with people who are there for perfectly lawful reasons.
After dark
Steam gathers under low arches, chalk arrows change meaning by audience, and respectable clerks eat supper a few doors from fixers they pretend not to recognize.
No single door
There is no official entrance to the Underways. A market stall, back room, porter, creditor, or family contact may matter more than a hidden passage.
